Warriors snubbed as Leonard wins award

Spurs forward Kawhi Leonard has been named the NBA's best defensive player for the second straight year.

Andrew Bogut has failed to pick up a single vote for NBA Defensive Player of the Year.

The award went to San Antonio Spurs forward Kawhi Leonard for the second straight year, with Bogut's Golden State Warriors team-mate Draymond Green finishing second.

It was decided by 130 NBA writers who gave five points for their first-placed selection, three points for their second pick and one point for third.

Leonard won with 547 points, Green earned 421 and the Miami Heat rim protector Hassan Whiteside was a distant third with 83.

Warriors forward Klay Thompson described Green's second place as a shock.

"We all think it's a snub, just because he's such a big part of our defence," Thompson said.

A year ago Bogut finished sixth with 31 points, earning six second place and 13 third place votes.

Los Angeles Clippers DeAndre Jordan finished fourth this year and Atlanta's Paul Millsap fifth.

Other players to get votes ahead of Bogut were Avery Bradley (Boston), Rudy Gobert (Utah), Anthony Davis (New Orleans), Tony Allen (Memphis) and Andre Drummond (Detroit).
