WA's north faces Christmas flooding

WA's north will get possible flooding and wild winds in the lead-up to Christmas, with two possible cyclones developing near the Kimberley.

Western Australia's north is facing flooding for Christmas and residents have been warned to prepare.

A lower level category two cyclone is expected to cross the WA coast west of Broome on Christmas Eve on Saturday.

A second tropical low could develop into a cyclone as it moves towards the Kimberley region on Wednesday.

There is a severe weather warning for damaging wind gusts and heavy rain for the Kimberley, that could come as early as Tuesday.

Rainfall of 200mm to 300mm was expected, Bureau of Meteorology regional director Mike Bergin said.

Plans were being made to deal with remote parts of the Kimberley including isolated Aboriginal communities, Department of Fire and Emergency Services country assistant commissioner Graham Swift said.
