WA's RSPCA inquiry labelled a 'witch hunt'

A parliamentary inquiry into RSPCA WA has been labelled a witch hunt by the opposition, who have called for it to be scrapped.

West Australian opposition leader Mark McGowan has demanded the state government end the "war against the RSPCA" and call off a parliamentary inquiry into the organisation.

During a visit to the animal welfare group's Perth headquarters on Friday, Mr McGowan labelled the inquiry into the actions and role of RSPCA WA a "witch hunt".

The inquiry was initiated and is being chaired by the state's only Shooters and Fishers MP Rick Mazza, and WA Premier Colin Barnett has previously said he didn't support it.

"Mr Barnett has caved in to an extreme minority, that for some warped reason, sees its mission in life to attack the RSPCA," Mr McGowan said.
