Did the Sydney siege warrant such extensive medial coverage and how well did the media do its job?

The political editor of Crikey, Bernard Keane has serious misgivings about how it was covered and the perceived need for media outlets to provide rolling coverage.

Mr Keane says one of the problems with the media reporting such incidents in Western countries is that it distorts the broader picture of the actual threat from violent extremists.

He spoke with Greg Dyett.
