Professional skier Ian McIntosh must be counting himself lucky after surviving a terrifying 487m fall down an Alaskan mountain.

Canadian professional skier Ian McIntosh has survived falling more than 480 metres down a mountain in Alaska.

McIntosh was filming a movie on snowboarding and skiing at the time of the fall.

The movie's producer has said the skier fell into a trench on his first turn and had no way of stopping.
