Wikileaks founder and editor-in-chief Julian Assange has participated in a live Google+ Hangout, brought by Deakin University and OurSay.org.

Mr Assange, who has sought refuge in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, has founded the WikiLeaks Party and is running for the Senate in the September election.

The 42-year-old publisher and activist answered five questions previously submitted and voted by the public online.

Before the beginning of the Hangout, OurSay Chief Executive Eyal Halamish said the organisation is all about giving people direct access to leaders in position of power, and Mr Assange is someone the public is very interested in questioning about his work.

“With the formation of the WikiLeaks Party, Australians seem, now more than ever, interested in connecting with Julian Assange," says Mr Halamish.

“We expect to see many questions about WikiLeaks, frank discussion of what he will do as a Senator and how the WikiLeaks principles will translate into politics,” Mr Halamish said.
