The church, which is best known for its gay-hate propaganda, had gathered outside the Kansas City venue where the Foo Fighters were due to play.
They were taken by surprise, when the Foo Fighters drove by in a pickup truck, with speakers blasting the song 'Never Gonna Give You Up'.
The Rick Astley hit is commonly used in the internet meme known as "Rickrolling", which involves tricking someone into clicking on a link to the 1987 hit song.
It wasn't the first time the Foo Fighters has taken on the controversial church. In 2011, the band crashed the church's protest, also in Kansas City, dressed in wigs and fake beards to serenade demonstrators with their song, "Keep it clean."
The Westboro Baptist Church, which was founded in Kansas in 1955, only has about 40 members and is widely known for its bigoted attitudes — particularly towards homosexuals.
They regularly protest at funerals of American soldiers, celebrities and politicians as well as at football games and music concerts.
