Waters to return to Senate

The Queensland parliament has formally confirmed the Greens' Larissa Waters will return to the Senate next week.

Larissa Waters will become the first senator punted over dual citizenship issues to return to the Senate next week.

The Queensland parliament on Thursday formally confirmed Senator Waters' would fill the casual vacancy before being sworn into the Senate in Canberra on Monday.

"I am confident that Ms Waters will again be an advocate for Queensland in the Senate," Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk told state parliament.

Ms Waters will take the seat vacated by Andrew Bartlett, who decided to run for the lower house seat of Brisbane at the next election.

She resigned in July last year after revelations she also held Canadian citizenship, having been born in Winnipeg.
