Watson's bowling guides Bangalore win

Man-of-the-match Shane Watson's bowling has been credited with a one-run Royal Challengers Bangalore over Kings XI Punjab.

Shane Watson has been named man of the match after his bowling helped guide Royal Challengers Bangalore to a one-run Indian Premier League win over Kings XI Punjab.

Fellow Aussie Marcus Stoinis came close to pulling off a remarkable finish for the Kings, but was unable to deliver the last-ball boundary needed to snatch the victory as they chased a total of 6-175 at Mohali on Monday.

However, Stoinis's 34 off 22 balls, including a six and three fours, earnt praise from commentators, who described his performance as magnificent.

His time at the crease made up for some less-than-impressive work in the first innings, when he was taken for 35 runs off his three overs and dropped an easy catch.

Watson, along with Yuzvendra Chahal (4-30-1), were credited with winning the match for Bangalore with the ball.

After being bowled for one by Axar Patel in the first innings, Watson made up for his own quickly taken wicket, claiming two of his own, as well as restricting Punjab to 22 runs off his four overs.

The win is a boost for Bangalore, who sit second from bottom of the league, only ahead of Punjab.

Speaking after the win, Watson said it was good to get some momentum for the side and "put a few smiles on a lot of people's faces".

"It's about trying to be as clear as I can be about the ball I want to bowl at the top of my mark," he said.

"It's really trying to pre-empt what the batsman is trying to do, it helps that I'm also a batsman, and then bowl a ball that is slightly out of the hitting zone."
