We asked our readers their most important life lessons

On Friday, SBS asked what useful life lessons our audience had learned in their 20s — and beyond.

Here is a small edited sample of what you had to say. What insights would you like to share?

  • Do what makes you happy, never try to impress others! There is a whole wide world out there — go and explore, you may just find a true love in whatever form that shall be.

  • Never say anything negative about yourself at work — especially to your boss — and never think that other people have it all in hand. You can ask for help and recognise your own shortcomings but there's no need to highlight them to everyone. Don't lie but put a positive 'spin' to it all. Work is a challenge — that's why we get paid to do it.

  • When you are really loved and really love someone you know. If you have doubts, walk away while you can.

  • If you get sick, go to the doctor, not Dr Google.

  • You can earn and loose money quickly but you can't get back time. All of you and your life isn't for sale — wake up and don't be a slave for money.

  • Learn how to budget. Learn how to cook. No-one's going to suddenly look after you, so learn how to do that, too. It's totally okay to spend a night in by yourself.

  • You think you're smart and mature, but you're not — yet.

  • Be kind. Pay attention to what's around you. Smile.

  • Never give up.
