We got it wrong: BBL umpire

Umpire Gerard Abood has explained the wrong decision he and Mike Graham-Smith made in the Big Bash League match at Adelaide Oval.

Gerard Abood, the umpire controlling Friday night's Big Bash League match, admits he erred in giving Travis Dean out at Adelaide Oval.

The Adelaide Strikers were reduced to 4-64 when Head was given out caught behind.

Replays confirmed the ball hit the turf before lobbing in the gloves of Melbourne Stars wicketkeeper Peter Handscomb.

"It's not the best feeling in the world when you realise you've got one wrong," Abood told cricket.com.au.

"We'll go through our processes and try to figure out how we got it wrong and why we got it wrong.

"It's hard not to hear all the boos when they nearly lift the roof off, but that's all part and parcel of it. We're paid to do that - that's our job."

Abood consulted with Mike Graham-Smith at the time but both umpires thought it was a clean catch.

"It's easy to be Monday's expert on it. We didn't think at the time there was an issue with it so we didn't refer it up," Abood said.

"As it turns out, it appears that it has bounced.

"If we had an inkling that it had bounced, we would have referred it upstairs."

The Strikers triumphed by 19 runs despite the error.
