We must assure ratings agencies: Morrison

Treasurer Scott Morrison has challenged the new parliament to encourage ratings agencies by supporting expenditure restraint.

Treasurer Scott Morrison has warned that ratings agencies aren't convinced the new parliament can support budget savings.

And that's where all sides of politics can make a contribution - by encouraging them, he says.

"That is a test for this parliament, and we have a number of bills before the parliament where they will be able to encourage the ratings agencies by showing their commitment to arresting the debt," Mr Morrison told reporters in Canberra on Wednesday.
