The national greyhound breeders' body says it will take legal action to fight the state government's ban on greyhound racing in NSW.

It follows NSW Premier Mike Baird's decision on Thursday to ban the industry from next July after an inquiry found evidence of animal cruelty including live baiting and mass killings.

"We will be fighting this," said Dubbo Greyhound Club president Shayne Stiff, on behalf of the Greyhound Breeders, Owners and Trainers Association (GBOTA), on Sunday.

"We have tens of millions of dollars to call upon under the national group of all the TAB clubs and the GBOTA - we are now all combined and we have tens of millions of dollars to put to this case to fight it," Mr Stiff told AAP.

He said former solicitor-general of Australia, barrister David Bennett, has been appointed on behalf of the industry.

As greyhound racing resumes in NSW this week under increased surveillance, Mr Stiff said there will be meetings on Monday and throughout the week as the plan of action is decided.

Mr Stiff was at a meeting on Saturday at Wentworth Park in Sydney's inner west, which was aimed at unifying the position of the industry and looking at challenging the ban under administrative and constitutional law.

He said the fight would bring down the government.

"I was part of a union movement that brought down a government and it can do it again. The people of NSW will fight for this," Mr Stiff told the ABC.

"The pain is unbearable for a lot of participants.

"I've had a lot of grown men crying yesterday, livelihoods, lives, family blood ... I don't think the government realised how many people this is hurting."

Greyhound Racing NSW said there will be racing at TAB tracks from Wednesday and Grafton Greyhound Club's July winter carnival would resume on Monday.
