Weaker dollar is positive: Morrison

Export industries trying to make the most of new trade agreements will benefit from a lower dollar, says Treasurer Scott Morrison.

Treasurer Scott Morrison says the weaker Australian dollar is a positive for the national economy.

At 1200 AEDT on Thursday, the currency was trading at 69.44 US cents.

"It's obviously very good for our tourism industries ... but equally with our export industries, feeding into these new trade agreements that we have, it also makes us far more competitive," Mr Morrison told Bloomberg TV.
