Wearable tech taking off

The market for wearable technology is a growing market worth billions of dollars.

The digital domain is creeping off our desktops and onto our bodies.

There are music players that match your tunes to your heart beat and mood sweaters that change colour depending on your emotional state.

Tech entrepreneur Manish Chandra says anything that makes our lives simpler and brings the interaction closer is going to succeed.

He spoke to hundreds of engineers, designers and developers on Monday at a wearable technology conference and fashion show in San Francisco.

This year Google's glasses and rumours of Apple's iWatch are popularising the field.

Analyst Shane Walker at IHS Global Insights says last year the market for wearable totalled almost $US9 billion ($A9.68 billion).

That should climb to $US30 billion ($A32.26 billion) by 2018.
