One Nation senator Malcolm Roberts has accused the Bureau of Meteorology of tinkering with weather data, but failed to produce any evidence when challenged by a senior government minister.

Senator Roberts, who does not believe in climate change, queried why the government did not want a thorough external independent inquiry and audit of the BoM.

The senator was responding to the findings of an internal bureau audit into the failure of automated weather stations at Goulburn and Thredbo in southern NSW to collect data when the temperature dropped below -10.4C in July.
