Weatherill heads for the SA regions

South Australian Premier Jay Weatherill is spending the next week in key regional centres, two months out from the next state election.

Premier Jay Weatherill will spend the next week in South Australian regional centres talking up the government's efforts to create jobs.

The Premier leaves Adelaide on Sunday and will spend some time in Port Pirie, Port Augusta, Whyalla and Port Lincoln.

"South Australian jobs are Labor's number one priority and since the last election the state government has helped protect and create thousands of jobs across regional South Australia," the premier said.

"In particular, Port Pirie, Whyalla and Port Augusta have all faced significant external challenges during this term, and are now looking forward to a brighter future."

Mr Weatherill said his government would continue to support the regional jobs of the future, in areas including mining, renewable energy, tourism, food and wine.

The premier's regional tour comes less than two months from the state election on March 17.

His government has been criticised for focusing too much on metropolitan Adelaide with its spending initiatives.

But the premier said the government's Regional Development Fund had created more than 3000 jobs and supported more than $1 billion worth of economic activity.
