As the second week of the election campaign gets underway the Australian Medical Association has launched a campaign asking patients to take their concerns (if they have them) about the freeze in the medicare rebate direct to politicians and to the political parties.
The freeze in medicare rebates started under the Labor Government has continued under this Government and was confirmed in the recent federal budget.
The AMA activity involves posters going up in surgeries and a social media campaign.
The AMA says that GPs have so far been adsorbing the freeze in the rebate but that many can't afford to keep doing that.
They say a visit to the GP could rise by $10 - $20 and that some practices won't be able to bulk bill patients any more.
Labor has not yet released its policy on the freeze to the GP rebate.
