The British Open Golf is in full swing, the Tour de France into its second week while closer to home the NRL, AFL and Super Rugby are all in action, plus Australia's cricketers have arrived in Sri Lanka to prepare for their tour.
Australia's cricketers are in Sri Lanka looking to triumph in a three-test series.
The subcontinent, though, is somewhere that Australia and all other test playing nations have traditionally struggled in.
Perhaps with that in mind, the inside knowledge of legendary spin bowler Muttiah Muralidaran has been sought.
The taker of no less than 800 test wickets will advise Australia's bowlers on how best to use the local conditions.
Australia's head coach Darren Lehmann says Murali's already made a positive impact.
"It's a tough tour, as we know. It'll be great entertaining cricket but it's always a tough tour on the subcontinent. Murali loves the game of cricket so I'm sure he'll work with other teams as well, he's a fantastic coach. Just learning the game and getting better at it so it's pretty important the preparation we've had."
The first test gets underway in Kandy on July 26th, with a five-match One-Day series and two T20 games also in store.
The British Open Golf tournament is taking place this weekend at Royal Troon in Scotland with all the big names, including Australia's world number one Jason Day and American Jordan Spieth in action.
Spieth confirmed his decision to miss the Rio Olympics during the week but admitted it was one of the hardest decisions he's ever had to take.
But he did confirm if golf remains a part of the Olympics he'll be there in four years' time.
"I'll make it a goal to be at Tokyo in 2020. I'll make it a significant goal. It'll be really, really tough to watch (Rio). I just had to make a decision and in weighing risks and health concerns I made it this route."
One woman that decided the threat of the Zika virus isn't enough to put her off competing in Rio is United States runner Allyson Felix.
The 30 year-old four-time Olympic gold medallist says she has faith in the advice given to the team by the United States Olympic Committee.
"For me I have to place my faith in the authority that there is and if the USOC is telling us that we're okay to go and compete than that is what I'm going to do."
Felix failed to qualify in the 200 metres but will run in the 400 metres, and intends to appear in the relays.
To the NRL and Wednesday's Origin Three clash has impacted this weekend's action.
Rabbitohs and Queensland star Greg Inglis has been banned for three matches after breaking Josh Dugan's jaw with a shoulder charge in the final Origin match.
He'll now miss South Sydney's clash against the Broncos.
And the Cronulla Sharks will look to extend their 13 game winning streak without New South Wales forward Andrew Fifita, suspended for one match for wrestling Gavin Cooper to the ground.
Fifita misses Sunday's match against the Roosters.
In the AFL, Geelong is aiming to stay in the top 6 when it travels to play the struggling Fremantle Dockers.
Both sides have lost their last two matches and defeat for Geelong would severely damage its finals chances.
And because of his side's recent form slump, the Cats coach Chris Scott says he's prepared to let some players go to the VFL if their form doesn't pick up.
If it's better for the team for the guys to go back and play at VFL level then that's what we'll do. We aspire to be a team that doesn't rely on everyone. Unfortunately where we are at the moment is either very good or very poor."
In Super Rugby tonight the New South Wales Waratahs go into their clash against the at-home Auckland Blues looking to win at Eden Park for just the second time since Super Rugby began back in 1996.
The match is a milestone fixture for New South Wales, playing its 1,000th game since its formation in 1882.
The Waratahs must win to have any hope of pipping the ACT Brumbies for the Australian conference title and advancing to the playoffs.
The Trans-Tasman netball finals get underway on Sunday afternoon with the Southern Steel taking on fellow New Zealand side the Waikato Magic.
Then on Monday evening it's the all Australian affair between the trophy-holder Queensland Firebirds and the New South Wales Swifts.
And there's a real mixed bag ahead for the Tour de France riders over the weekend, with an Individual time trial before a flat stage on Saturday which is likely to see the peleton face strong headwinds sure to make life tough for the sprinters.
Then on Sunday there's a mountain stage with the feared Grand Colombier being tackled not once but twice on the way to Culoz.
