While Australia's test cricketers are in Mumbai ahead of the four test series which gets underway next Thursday the first of three T20 matches against Sri Lanka takes place at the MCG in Melbourne tonight.

With the test squad busy preparing for the India tour it'll be a new look Australia side with Michael Klinger making a long-awaited debut.

Also set to make their debuts are Ashton Turner and Billy Stanlake.

Turning to football, and the big match in the A-League this weekend sees Sydney FC's season long unbeaten record go on the line against cross town rivals the Western Sydney Wanderers.

The last team Sydney would want to lose their record to would be the Wanderers, but defender Alex Wilkinson says they won't be making any special plans.

"For us, it's the same every week. We prepare the same, we do our homework on the team we're playing against their strengths and weaknesses. And then, ultimately, it's about how we approach the game."

There's been speculation surrounding the coaching future of Tony Popovic at the Wanderers with media reports linking him with a possible job in the Chinese Super League with Shanghai Shenhua.

But despite the talk, defender Jack Clisby says the players are sticking by their coach.

Everyone believes in his philosophy and the way this season's gone we know we can push on into the finals and you know our target is to be in that grand final and there's no reason why we can't.

SBS Viceland has live coverage of the Adelaide United versus Newcastle Jets match tonight from 7.30pm.

In the AFL, new Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin has expressed confidence in the club's new leadership arrangements as he prepares to start his first season in charge.

Nathan Jones and Jack Viney will be co-captains of the Demons this year in an unusual arrangement.

Whilst leadership groups are common, most clubs still only have one official captain.

But Goodwin says their new arrangement will be a big success.

"We certainly believe that the shared leadership model is part of our growth moving forward. We feel like we've got two guys that resemble everything that we want in our playing group. They have great values about how they play the game and with that model, we feel we can really drive this footy club forward. And even in the short infancy that we've seen it, we've already seen that starting to emerge."

Melbourne play their first pre-season match against the Western Bulldogs on Saturday.

The Women's Australian Open golf tournament at Royal Adelaide continues over the weekend and for 20-year-old South Korean-born Australian Su Oh it'll be a chance to record her first win.

She arrived in Australia as an eight-year-old and by the age of 12 she became the youngest ever qualifier for the Australian Open.

So far her career highlight was representing Australia at last year's Rio Olympics but now she wants success on the professional tour.

My first win would be good on the Ladies Professional Golfers Association. I think that's my ultimate goal for the year, to get the first win. The Australian Open last year was extremely important for me because having a good year at the Australian Open last year pretty much got me into a few more starts during the year.

And the NBL finals are underway, with the Cairns Taipans and Perth Wildcats going head to head in their semi-final later tonight.

The other match up sees the Illawarra Hawks and the Adelaide 36ers meeting in the second game of their best of three series on Sunday afternoon.

SBS has live coverage of that match from 3pm.
