New Zealand may have set a new world record of 18 consecutive test match wins with a 37 to 10 win against the Wallabies in Auckland but the milestone was only one of the talking points after the match.
Wallabies coach Michael Cheika was depicted in local newspapers as a clown.
After the match he refused to comment when asked for his opinion on New Zealand's world record and, on arrival back in Sydney, he defended his decision.
"Why would you let the opposition call your team clowns and mock the jersey? I don't think it's a popularity contest. Our job is to get better on the field."
In the A-League this weekend there were wins for Perth Glory, Brisbane Roar, Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC, while the Western Sydney Wanderers closed out round 3 with a 2-2 draw against the Newcastle Jets.
The match was the first professional football game ever staged at their temporary home ground the Sydney Showgrounds in the Olympic Park complex.
The Wanderers' Dimas Delgado scored to celebrate his first match as captain, after Nikolai Topor-Stanley left the club last week.
The Spaniard Dimas took a spot kick just before the half-time break, as broadcast by Fox Sports.
"With half time just a second or two away and Dimas makes no mistake, runs away to the Red and Black Bloc and the Wanderers will go into the sheds with a two-goal lead."
Cross-town rivals Sydney FC finished round three on top of the table after a dramatic injury-time winner away at Wellington Phonenix.
Serbian import Milos Ninkovic was on hand to poke the ball home from a Matt Simon header.
Fox Sports again.
"Bonavacia to close it down, Simon has space in the area the header across goal and they've scored! Sydney might have pinched this very late Ninkovic."
Australian horce-racing fans are wondering how many more races Winx can win after the 5 year-old mare joined a select group by winning her second Cox Plate at Moonee Valley on Saturday.
Only all-time greats such as Phar Lap, Sunline, Northerly and Kingston Town have won multiple Cox Plates.
Here's how Channel 7 described the closing stages of the $3 million race.
"But this is a blitz. It's a Winx blitz. Two in a row and she joins the list of all time greats of the turf. Winx has won it by 6 lengths to Hartnell, Yankee Rose third."
The margin of Winx's 13th consecutive victory was later confirmed as 8 lengths and it's thought to be the most decisive since the race was first run back in 1922.
Jockey Hugh Bowman rode Winx to victory in the same race last year and he believes the horse's fame will now spread worldwide.
"It's one thing to come and win, but to bring a horse up with such a public admiration and focus and respect, not just from Moonee Vallee but all over Australia and beyond now, to be a part of it is so special and I'm just so honoured."
In the National Basketball League this weekend the Perth Wildcats were the standout performers, winning at home to Illawarra on Friday night before travelling to Melbourne and winning Sunday's clash.
