Beginning with golf, and American Jordan Spieth has squandered his chances of defending his US Masters crown, allowing Danny Willett to become just the second Englishman to claim the Green Jacket.
Going into the final round World No. 2 Spieth was leading Willett by five strokes, but dropped six shots over three holes before running up a quadruple bogey seven on the par-three 12th to end his hopes.
Spieth was left to wonder what could've been.
"Pretty sure I'll be disappointed with that one. We still have the confidence that we're a closing team, (that) we can close. I have no doubt about that ability, I just think it was really a very tough 30 minutes for me that hopefully I never experience again."
Willett finished on 5-under.
The story of a close final round of the regular season in the A-League was of opportunities taken and opportunities missed.
The premiership was Brisbane's if they beat Melbourne Victory on Saturday night.
But the game finished in a nil-all draw and Brisbane went from potential premiers to missing out on a first round bye in the finals.
Captain Matt McKay was left to lament a little and hope for something better once the finals begin.
"I think we had the chances. We played a good game. To be honest, I'm pretty proud of the boys' effort. But I think every single one of us had a chance. Obviously, that was the difference this season. But we'll regroup."
The main beneficiary of Brisbane's failure was Adelaide United.
They are A-League premiers after they took their chance, beating Melbourne City two-nil on Friday night.
For the Reds coming first is no mean feat, given they were coming last in the standings almost one-third of the way through the season.
The Western Sydney Wanderers will join them in having next weekend off after their win over Wellington, which allowed them to finish second.
Next weekend, Brisbane has a re-match with Melbourne Victory on Friday night, whilst Melbourne City hosts Perth on Sunday after the Glory was the other team to cruel their own chances this weekend with a four-nil loss to struggling Sydney FC.
Both matches are knockout games with the winners playing a top-two side the next weekend.
The winners of those games will face each other in the Grand Final on May the 1st.
In the AFL, Sydney, Gold Coast, and North Melbourne stayed undefeated with victories this weekend, but the other team looking to make themselves three from three, the Western Bulldogs, lost narrowly to defending champions Hawthorn.
James Sicily kicked the winning goal for the Hawks with under one minute to play.
Hawthorn star Luke Hodge has told Channel Seven Sicily could be the newest star in a team full of stars.
"He's going to have one of those careers, I think: stuff's going to follow him. Blokes play hundreds of games and never get that situation. He's played his fourth or his fifth game, and he gets there. Ice in the veins. Great the way he went about it, no doubt."
In rugby league, Brisbane remains top of the table after victory over St George Illawarra to start the round.
Melbourne can join them on Monday night if they beat Canterbury.
At the opposite end of the ladder, the previously winless Newcastle and the Sydney Roosters both picked up their first triumphs of the season too.
And whilst winning has been a problem for the Sydney Roosters, it hasn't been one for that city's netball team.
The New South Wales Swifts are the only Australian side to have their won first two matches of the Trans-Tasman netball championship after thrashing the Waikato/Bay of Plenty Magic, 78 goals to 50.
Centre Paige Hadley has told Fox Sports the team's fast start this season is no accident.
"Last year, we knew we had a really slow start, and we had to fight really hard at the end. This year, we wanted to make amends on that, and start really strong. We've got girls coming in fighting for spots. Obviously, Laura Langman brings a wealth of experience, and I'm learning so much off her. But, yeah, we're just focusing on (taking things) game by game. And at the moment, we're on top."
