SBS World News Radio: Fittingly, the weekend ending in ANZAC Day was big one in sport across Australia and New Zealand.

In the A-League, it's a case of 139 games down, one to go.

Mind you, the one left to go might need to be off the charts to match the 139th.

The Western Sydney Wanderers will travel to Adelaide to play Adelaide United at the Adelaide Oval next Sunday for the right to be called 2015-2016 A-League champions.

And they'll do it after a semi-final win that can only be described as epic.

They looked doomed in front of the home crowd, down three-nil to Brisbane Roar after 23 minutes.

But amazingly they rallied to be level at three-all after 53 minutes and in extra-time, Dario Vidosic provided the winner to give them a 5-4 victory.

Romeo Castelen was the hero overall with a hat-trick.

Wanderers coach Tony Popovic says the key to the big comeback was to make it in small steps.

"It was crucial to try and stay calm and get a goal back as soon as possible, and we did that. And once we got that goal, it was about being aware of the counterattack, where they're very strong, and to slowly work our way back into the game. And the players were fantastic."

Adelaide qualified for the Grand Final in a somewhat more sedate fashion, beating Melbourne City 4-1.

They'll start favourites against the Wanderers in next Sunday's big game.

The rugby league round concludes with three NRL matches on ANZAC Day itself, but one of the main stories of this round, and the season so far, is the Cronulla Sharks.

They've now won five matches in a row after their 20 points to 18 triumph over the Penrith Panthers, and sit third on the competition ladder behind only the Brisbane Broncos and North Queensland Cowboys.

Sharks hooker Michael Ennis has told Fox Sports some old-fashioned, backs-to-the-wall defensive work was key to their latest triumph.

"Yeah mate, it's a massive win for us. We gave (Penrith) so much opportunity. I know they got 18 points, but our goal line D (defence) today, with the amount of possession they had, was enormous."

The AFL has its traditional ANZAC Day showdown between Essendon and Collingwood at the MCG to conclude round five.

But the story of this season so far isn't about a red sash or black and white stripes, but rather, blue and white stripes.

Those blue and white stripes belong to the Kangaroos of North Melbourne - the league's lone undefeated team.

They're top of the ladder with five wins from five games after a victory over Gold Coast on Saturday.

However, Forward Drew Petrie has told Fox Footy he and his team mates aren't celebrating themselves too much yet.

"I think obviously we're a more mature group now. A lot gets spoken about (how) maybe we're a bit old. But I think (if) you look at the performance of the 30-plus year olds this year, it's been outstanding. It's a great start, a really great start. But you drop a couple, you're sort of back in the pack. So (we're) not getting carried away."

And in the Trans-Tasman netball competition, defending champions the Queensland Firebirds have set a new competition record of 17 consecutive victories with their victory over the previous record holder, the Adelaide Thunderbirds.

Their next challenge: a showdown next weekend with the competition's only other four wins from four games team, the New South Wales Swifts.

Centre Kim Ravaillion has told Fox Sports they're ready for a game befitting a big showdown.

"Yeah, the Swifts are playing some quality netball. And so we're going to do our analysis, and it's going to be a tough grind out there. We're just going to ride it out to the last minute, and yeah, I've got full faith in my team."

In a case of reversing fortunes, the previous record holder Adelaide Thunderbirds are bottom of the Australian division with four losses from four games thus far this season.
