The Turnbull government's welfare fraud crackdown is ahead of schedule.

New measures announced in last year's budget, including better cross-checking of tax office and Centrelink data, were expected to reap $329 million in the first financial year.

But Human Services Minister Alan Tudge said that figure had been achieved this week, with a third of the financial year still to go.
