He missed out on reclaiming his Test spot, but Adam Voges cracked an unbeaten 78 to help guide Western Australia to a drought-breaking eight-wicket win over Queensland in the Sheffield Shield clash at the WACA Ground.
WA reached 2-227 early on the final day, with Voges and Jonathan Wells (113no) combining for an unbeaten 168-run stand.
The Warriors started Thursday at 2-170, and the home side needed only 52 minutes to score the remaining 57 runs needed.
Voges was ruled out of the recent Test win over South Africa because of concussion.
His poor form earlier in the Test series meant he was likely to be dropped for that match anyway.
Voges was dealt a blow early on Thursday when he was left out of the 12-man squad for the day-night Test against Pakistan at the Gabba, starting on December 15.
The 37-year-old concedes his Test career is all but over.
But he hasn't given up hope of guiding WA to silverware this summer.
"I've probably known for a week or two that my name wasn't getting called out today," Voges said of the Test squad.
"I've accepted that and moved on, and I've got a real focus now on helping this group win more games of Shield cricket.
"At my age, I've got to keep setting new challenges. While that's still a reality (to make the Shield final), I'll keep pushing as hard as I can."
The Warriors started the Shield season with four straight losses.
If they had lost to Queensland, it would have been their worst start to a Shield season.
But paceman Simon Mackin's return of 11 wickets for the match helped turn the contest in WA's favour.
Voges and Wells ensured there would be no troubles chasing down the victory target with a powerful batting display.
Wells, who brought up his ton with a six, has now scored two centuries this summer to establish himself at the top of the order.
Mackin was named man of the match for his returns of 5-68 and 6-33.
"It's been a tough start to the year. And at 7-125 in our first innings, things weren't looking great," Voges said.
"But I'm really proud of the guys and the way they turned it around.
"Ashton Turner (100) and Josh Nicholas (52) with the bat, and then Simon Mackin and David Moody with the ball."
