The Anglican Archbishop of Sydney Peter Jensen says loneliness is a major social problem that affects all social stratas.
"The Christian message is about restoring relationships," Dr Jensen said it his 2010 Easter message on Thursday.

Christians should consider their relationship with God and their relationships with each other during the Easter religious season, which remembers the death of Christ Jesus on the cross to pay for the sins of humankind.
"As a result of what Jesus did, we are meant to reach out to each other, to care, to love, to serve," Dr Jensen said.
"We are not meant to be alone," he said.
"That is a major spiritual problem."
The Moderator of the Uniting Church Synod of NSW and the ACT, Reverend Niall Reid, said Easter was a time for Christians to be the bearers of hope and life.
"The cross, a brutal instrument of death, is also the tree which offers life - a way of life that stands with the poor and vulnerable against unjust power," he said in his Easter message.
Reverend Reid drew parallels between the hit 3D movie Avatar, saying the story line expressed common desire for something more, a way of life that connects beings to the earth.
"The question Easter asks us is `are we prepared to allow evil to have its way or will we stand in its way, with all the risks that involves, that we might be the bearers of hope and life for the world we live in?'," he said.
Archbishop Philip Wilson, president of the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference, said the message of hope that Easter brings was especially important given the devastating recent earthquakes in Haiti and Chile.
"While some people look at such shocking events and wonder how God can let them happen, our faith helps us to understand that Jesus is the answer to our suffering" he said.
Archbishop Wilson called on Australians to remember the people of Haiti and Chile in their prayers.
