Western Sydney airport gets advisory body

The Turnbull government has named the 22 members of a forum to advise on the development of the western Sydney airport.

The federal government has appointed former public servant Peter Shergold to head an advisory body to steer the western Sydney airport development.

Flight-path planning will be among the key issues to be discussed by the group, which will meet three times a year starting next month.

Mr Shergold, the chancellor of Western Sydney University, will head the body of 22 - including 10 community representatives and five nominated by local councils.

Residents of the Blue Mountains, where there's been opposition over proposed flight paths, will have Blaxland resident Joanne Bromilow to speak for them.

There'll also be members representing other stakeholder groups including Virgin Australia, Sydney Metro Airports Bankstown and Camden and a number of local councils.

Some Blue Mountains residents have been concerned about the noise impact over the eastern boundary of the Blue Mountains National Park.

Last year the government announced fight paths over western Sydney suburbs would not be allowed to merge at a single location under restrictions for the new Badgerys Creek airport.

The airport is expected to create up to 9000 direct jobs by the early 2030s.
