What is being said about SA's energy plan

The SA government's energy plan has pleased AGL, unions and partly environmental groups, but the federal governments says it is a warning to other states.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT SA POWER PLAN:

"South Australians have been let down by a broken national energy market that puts profits before people. We're going to put people first." - SA Premier Jay Weatherill

"This is a plan that puts control of our energy system back in South Australian hands." - SA Energy Minister Tom Koutsantonis

"Nowhere in Jay Weatherill's plan is the problem of South Australia's lack of cheap base load generation addressed. This plan will not deliver South Australians cheaper electricity." - SA Opposition Leader Stephen Marshall

"Today's announcement by the South Australian government is a warning sign to other states. These 50 per cent renewable energy targets will get you into trouble." - Federal Energy Minister Josh Frydenberg

"Apart from a modest spend on batteries and some regulatory reform, the bulk of the money is going straight to fossil fuel generation with massive taxpayer subsidies to big gas." - SA Greens MP Mark Parnell

"There is a great risk that a better and cheaper option to provide grid security than a gas-powered station will emerge even before we as taxpayers receive the keys to the plant," - Conservation Council of SA chief executive Craig Wilkins

"We still need a national plan that supports commercial investment in energy markets without major administrative interventions by government." - Energy Networks Australia CEO John Bradley

"Energy security and reliability are likely to be enhanced as a result of this package." - Power company AGL

"The government has offered pathways for cleaner technologies to develop, whilst giving security to workers in gas-fired generation until that pathway is clearer." - Australian Services Union SA and NT branch secretary Joseph Scales
