What we know about the Tas floods

The army has been called in to help with the unique flooding conditions in Tasmania and at least two people are missing feared drowned.

WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT THE TAS FLOODS

MISSING

* Elderly woman missing after her home in Latrobe, near Devonport, was inundated. Her husband was rescued by helicopter through the roof.

* A man in his 80s reportedly swept away by floodwaters near Ouse in the central highlands.

RESCUED

* More than a dozen people in Latrobe and surrounds evacuated by boat, including a family of three rescued from the roof of their car

HOMES AND BUSINESSES

* Newstead, an inner suburb in Launceston, evacuated.

* Evacuation centres open in Devonport, Launceston, Wynyard and Deloraine.

* 3500 homes without power

* Significant livestock losses at dairy farms along the Mersey river

HEALTH

* Avoid all contact with floodwaters where possible, says health department

* Water may be contaminated with sewage, leading to gastro and skin and soft-tissue infections.

* Temporary boil water alert for Conara, Scamander, Wayatinah, National Park, Rocky Creek and Colebrook.

RAIN

* Exceptionally heavy rain in past 36 hours in north

* Six catchments above 200mm in the 24 hours to 9am Monday with Fisher River (278mm) the highest

* Mount Wellington lashed with 68mm on Monday

* The north-east is expected to get another 50 to 100mm on Monday

RIVERS

* Flood watch for all rivers

* Major flood warnings for the Derwent, Mersey, Forth, Meander, North Esk and South Esk rivers.

* Mersey and Forth to peak on Monday afternoon

WAVES

* Swells of up to 8m predicted on north-east coast.

* Coastal erosion possible from Flinders Island to Tasman Island
