Whateley books Rio boxing spot

Australia will have at least three boxers competing at the Rio Olympics after Victorian heavyweight Jason Whateley won in China.

Victoria heavyweight Jason Whateley has booked his spot at the Rio Olympics after holding out second-ranked Tajikstani fighter Jakhon Qurbonova at the Asian Oceania qualifiers in China.

Whateley will join NSW middleweight Daniel Lewis on the plane to South America along with Commonwealth Games lightweight champion Shelley Watts who qualified earlier this week.

Female boxers Caitlyn Parker and Kristy Harris mised out but will get another chance to qualify at the Women's World Championships in Kazakhstan next month.
