White feels pressure to grasp ODI lifeline

Cameron White knows he will only have a short time to cement a place in Australia's ODI line-up.

Cameron White is trying not to over-think his unexpected return to the Australian ODI team, but he knows he doesn't have long to make his mark.

The 34-year-old played what he believed to be his 88th and final ODI match in January, 2015.

It was a one-off against England in Hobart that came after nearly four years out of the one-day team.

It came as a huge surprise to White when he was named in the squad for the current series against England.

Coming in at No.7 in Brisbane he made an unbeaten 15 from 21 deliveries, then he was promoted to No.3 in Sydney after skipper Steve Smith dropped down to No.4.

He scored 17 from 25 balls before he was caught behind and knows he needs to do more if he is to make the most of his lifeline.

"I'm not stupid, I've probably got to really make the most of the next opportunity if I get one," White said.

"The ball's in my court and I need to do something.

"I don't want to put too much pressure on myself, but it's hard not to. Being realistic, it's probably only going to be a short window to try to do something.

"I try not to put pressure on myself but I feel under pressure, for sure."

White spoke to reporters after he skippered the Melbourne Renegades against the Adelaide Strikers in Monday night's BBL encounter at Etihad Stadium, having been granted permission to leave the ODI squad.

He will return to the national squad ahead of the fourth ODI in Adelaide on Friday where he hopes he will get another audition for the No.3 spot.

The Renegades' hold on fourth spot was loosened when they suffered a 26-run loss to the Strikers.

White will miss the side's remaining two regular season games but will be available for the finals should the Renegades make it.
