White House says Trump won't fire Mueller

Donald Trump's spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders has told reporters aboard Air Force One that the president doesn't intend firing Robert Mueller.

The White House says President Donald Trump "has no intention" of firing the special counsel investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

Spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders has told reporters aboard Air Force One that "while the president has the right to" fire Robert Mueller, "he has no intention to do so".

The president has railed against the Russia investigation as a "witch hunt".

Per Department of Justice rules, it's actually up to the deputy attorney general to make that call - though the president could bypass that protocol.

Some of Trump's allies have begun questioning Mueller's credibility as the investigation intensifies.
