Whitehaven given Narrabri expansion nod

Whitehaven Coal has received approval to boost production at its Narrabri mine in NSW.

Whitehaven said the NSW Department of Planning and Environment had granted approval to increase annual production from eight million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) to 11Mtpa and to install a 400 metre wide longwall face at Narrabri, its lowest cost mine.

The Narrabri mine produced 7.2Mt of saleable coal at a cost of $52 per tonne in full year 2015.
