With all the focus upon who will run the country the battle for the senate has been overshadowed.
In one of the quirks of Australian democracy the senators that were up for re-election are those that were first elected at the 2004 election.
The Australian senate makes interesting reading, with The Greens making massive leaps and bounds towards being Australia's 'third party' while the return of the Democratic Labor Party sees a hark back to the 1970's.
