Widespread rejection of Syrian presidential election

Bashar al-Assad has been re-elected Syria's president, but the election has been widely rejected.

Bashar al-Assad has been re-elected Syria's president after a poll labelled a farce by rebels fighting to overthrow him.

Condemned by Western governments, the election was held only in the approximately 40 percent of Syrian territory controlled by the regime, and among expatriates.
