Wildcats coach demands improvements

Perth Wildcats coach Trevor Gleeson says his side need to improve after losing to Adelaide 36ers on Saturday's NBL clash.

Perth Wildcats coach Trevor Gleeson admits that there are several areas in which his side needs to improve if they are to rebound quickly from Saturday night's loss to the Adelaide 36ers.

And they need to find answers quickly, as they travel to play Cairns on Monday night to complete round 15 of NBL action.

Working harder for each other, not being distracted by referees and being stronger on the boards - in attack and defence - are a few area that the Cats will try focus on between now and Monday night.

Perth hasn't played the Taipans since round one, when the Wildcats won in overtime at home 84-74.

The two sides will meet twice in less than a week, on different sides of the country.

"We have to work for each other a little harder than we are doing - 13 assists is disappointing," Gleeson said.

"And we got sidetracked with refereeing. We have to be better than that. When things aren't going our way, we have to knuckle down collectively.

"There are things out of our control that we can't worry about."

In better news for the Wildcats, captain Damian Martin got through his third game since returning from 10 games on the sidelines due to a knee injury.

He played for 24 minutes, the most since his return, and was terrific in defence early.

Gleeson said he still needs to take medical advice as to how long he can play on Monday night.

"It's a process; he obviously didn't play for nine weeks. We can't expect him to go, although he wants to," Gleeson said.

"We have to take some medical advice on that. I'll see how he pulls up.

"Every game he is getting stronger and better and hopefully the last eight games we'll see the Damo of old."
