Wildcats coach impressed by new import

New Perth Wildcats import Terrico White had his first training session with the NBL club on Monday, and coach Trevor Gleeson liked what he saw.

Perth Wildcats coach Trevor Gleeson has given Terrico White a big tick after watching the American import strut his stuff on Monday.

White was put through his paces in his first official training session as a Wildcat.

The 28-year-old only has two more sessions to get used to his new teammates before playing practice matches against rivals Adelaide in Perth on Friday and Sunday.

The Wildcats will then play three games in the NBL Blitz, before flying to America for matches against NBA outfits Utah Jazz and Denver Nuggets.

Perth's first game of the NBL season is against Adelaide on October 11.

White has become accustomed to hitting the ground running in new environments, having played in America, Israel, Turkey, Russia, Serbia and South Korea during his well-travelled career.

Gleeson was impressed by what he saw from the 196cm guard on Monday.

"He had a good first day," Gleeson said.

"He got a bit of a bang to his knee that quietened him down. But he's a really good threat from the perimeter, and he picks up things very well.

"First day - it's a real big tick for us, and he'll get a lot more comfortable as he gets to know our system and structure."

Gleeson hopes White and fellow import Bryce Cotton will build good chemistry.

The Wildcats will have a new look about them this season, having lured White, Mitch Norton, Nick Kay and Tom Jervis to the club.

"I like where we're at. We've got a bit tougher in there," Gleeson said.

"Nick Kay is a fantastic screener and fantastic work horse out there. Mitch Norton has been unbelievable with the ball in his hand.

"And now we're adding Terrico into that line-up, so they're really good additions."

The Wildcats will be without Boomers quartet Kay, Norton, Angus Brandt and Jesse Wagstaff for the upcoming games against Adelaide because of international duties.
