Perth coach Trevor Gleeson has signed for three more seasons after guiding them to a fourth NBL title in six years and says he never seriously entertained thoughts of leaving the Wildcats.

Gleeson, who was off contact, last week created history by becoming the first NBL coach to win four championships with one team.

"Trevor is the best in the business, and that was never more evident than this season where he shut out the outside noise, fought through injuries, inspired resilience in the group and guided our team to another monumental victory," Wildcats chairman Jack Bendat said on Friday.

"Our new contract with Trevor will see him become the longest-serving head coach in the club's 38-season history.

"He will coach the Perth Wildcats until at least the end of the 2021-22 season, meaning he will have been at the helm for nine seasons.

Gleeson joined Perth in 2013, winning a championship in his first season, back-to-back-titles in 2016-17 and a oversaw a 3-1 grand final series victory over Melbourne United this month.

'We wanted to stay here, I've worked with a few bosses in the past and Jack (Bendat) is the best and you certainly want to be in that environment," Gleeson told AAP.

"We didn't really entertain any other offers, we'll keep on building what we're building here and hopefully the next three years is as good as the last three."

Perth have won a record nine NBL titles and stretched their world record of consecutive finals appearances to 33.

Gleeson and the Widlcats attention will now turn to the free agency signing period starting on April 1.

Off contract are import and grand final series MVP Terrico White, multiple title winners and long-time Wildcats Damian Martin and Jesse Wagstaff, Clint Steindl and Tom Jervis

'We'll try and keep as many players as we can from this year," Gleeson said.

Gleeson revealed he tried on Wednesday to persuade club stalwart Greg Hire to reverse his decision to retire.
