New Zealand cricket captain Kane Williamson has called on his players to learn fast after their three-nil series loss to Australia.
David Warner's 156 outscored New Zealand by nine on Friday night at the MCG, as Australia won the last game of the one-day series by 117 runs.
New Zealand started their innings well, but then capitulated and were blasted out for only 147.
While his team showed glimpses of good form throughout the series, Williamson bemoaned the lack of a complete performance.
He said Australia had shown them the standard and consistency required.
"They were very clinical in everything they did," Williamson said.
"It's important we take bits from the way they played ... into our cricket."
Williamson said their batting in Friday's dead rubber was particularly frustrating.
"We had a few guys get in and then some of the options were perhaps questionable," he said.
As much as Williamson was disappointed in his team, he also praised Australia's complete performance.
"When you're playing a side like Australia, certainly in their own conditions they would be probably the best team in the world," he said.
"They can expose some areas and when they put you under pressure, there's certainly a lot of opportunity to learn a lot.
"We do need to learn from that."
Williamson said it was vital that New Zealand learn to scrap better when the game is not going their way.
Williamson was particularly impressed by Warner's outstanding MCG innings, which took the game away from New Zealand after Australia were teetering at 4-73.
"I look at Davey's innings and it was exceptional, on a wicket that was tough to play free-flowing cricket," he said.
"He made that adjustment, reined his game in, took the game deep and gave himself the opportunity to get an above-par score for his team.
"So there's a lot to learn from an innings like that."
