Kane Williamson will succeed Brendon McCullum as Black Caps skipper and has now taken over from him as the country's best cricketer.
The 25-year-old was awarded the Sir Richard Hadlee Medal after being named New Zealand Cricketer of the Year at an awards function in Auckland on Thursday.
The winner of the Halberg Sportsman of the Year award scored more runs in international cricket than any other batsmen in 2015.
He was also named the country's Test player of the year and the Redpath Cup for first-class batting.
McCullum, who won the top award last year, retired from the international game after the second Test defeat to Australia and was formally farewelled by NZ Cricket and awarded his ICC Spirit of Cricket award.
Martin Guptill was named ODI and Twenty20 player of the year while Trent Boult was first-class bowler of the year.
White Ferns skipper Suzie Bates was named women's international player of the year and Sophie Devine was honoured for the world record for the fastest T20 century.
