Windies to continue verbal attack

West Indies captain Jason Holder says he is looking forward to more onfield chit-chat with Australia in the third Test at the SCG.

West Indies skipper Jason Holder is gearing up for an escalation of the onfield sparring that finally brought the Test series against Australia to life at the MCG.

Despite losing the second Test and the series in Melbourne, the Windies were able to unsettle the Australians at the MCG and get under the skin of vice-captain David Warner.

Holder believes it is the way cricket should be played and has warned Australia to expect more of the same ahead of the third Test starting at the SCG on Sunday.

"I am one of those players who like that kind of thing," Holder said in his pre-Test press conference on Saturday.

"That keeps me in the game personally. I believe that is the way cricket should be played. I don't think we should be on the field not saying anything and just (being) quiet and going through the motions.

"I believe we should be at one another, it is a competitive game and if you are a competitive person maybe that is the way to go. But different individuals approach it differently."

The Windies were thumped by an innings and 212 runs in the first Test in Hobart, but put forward a better account of themselves in their 177-run loss at the MCG.

However Holder said his bowlers needed to show more.

"We have basically leaked runs both sides of the wicket," he said.

"We need our bowlers to be a lot more disciplined. I have spoken about it from the first Test match and we got a little better in the second Test match but we are nowhere near where we are supposed to be.

"We need to be disciplined for longer periods of time and then you will see those attacking fields."

Australia will play two spinners in Nathan Lyon and Stephen O'Keefe for the first time in a home Test in a decade at the SCG. Holder felt that could be playing into the visitors' hands.

"We have been accustomed to a lot of spin in the Caribbean so hopefully our batsmen can get into that a lot better than we have during this series," he said.

"We are basically down to one spinner with Bishoo being unavailable for this Test match. So we just have to work with what we have.

"I'm sure Kraigg (Brathwaite) might have to come in and bowl some more overs."
