Windies want to become world force: Law

Former Australian batsman and now West Indies coach Stuart Law says the West Indies are looking to become a force in the cricketing world once more.

New West Indies coach Stuart Law says his young side is committed to becoming a Test cricket force despite the attraction of lucrative T20 contracts.

"These young guys, they're desperate. They want to play Test cricket first," Law told RSN927 radio on Tuesday.

"Obviously, the T20 dollar will attract their attention at time-to-time.

"But if they have a pretty decent international career, well that T20 dollar mark for them goes up extensively."

The 48-year-old former Australian batsman will join the West Indies in a fortnight after acting as Australia's batting coach for the 2016 Sri Lanka tour.

Law said his new team's attitude was in stark contrast to T20 "superstars ... resigned to the fact that they're going to travel the world".

"They [the West Indies] started playing decent cricket in the last 12 months," he said.

"They want to learn, they want to get better. They want to become a force in the world again."
