Windies will have last laugh: Ambrose

Curtly Ambrose says the much maligned West Indies can cause a huge upset and beat Australia in the opening Test in Hobart starting on Thursday.

Curtly Ambrose says the West Indies will make their many critics look silly when they knock over Australia in the opening Test in Hobart.

An inexperienced Windies have copped plenty of criticism since arriving Down Under, and it went up a notch after they were humiliated by a Cricket Australia XI last week in Brisbane in their only tour match leading into the three-Test series.

Most pundits have been tipping a series whitewash to Australia, who are coming off a hard-fought 2-0 Test series win over New Zealand, and some even predict the tourists will struggle to take the match longer than three days at Bellerive Oval starting on Thursday.

Ambrose isn't having any of it.

"At the end of the day, when we perform and we beat Australia, the reporters will have to change their tune," the West Indies bowling consultant told reporters on Tuesday.

Ambrose admitted that the visitors have brought a young and inexperienced squad to Australia, but said they're up to the task and ready to prove the naysayers wrong.

"We're here to do a job and we're going to make a good job of it," he said.

"Being here alone should be more than enough motivation for the players, but having heard all those comments should be ideal motivation for them."

Boasting 405 Test wickets, Ambrose is a strong guiding hand for the West Indies and said he's been working closely with the bowlers, including the side's pace spearhead Jerome Taylor.

"We're going to do well, we're going to do much better than you think."
