Windies women not intimidated by Aussies

West Indies captain Stafanie Taylor says her side isn't intimidated by Australia, if anything the Southern Stars should be intimidated.

West Indies skipper Stafanie Taylor has turned the heat up on Australia on the eve of the World Twenty20 final.

Taylor's side are playing in their first World T20 decider but the allrounder insists all pressure will be on the three-time defending champion Southern Stars in Kolkata on Sunday.

"We're not intimidated at all. If anything, they should be," Taylor said.

"They've won it three times and we have nothing to lose really.

"We definitely want to grasp this and win the Cup for the first time.

"I wouldn't think we're intimidated. More we're just trying to be relaxed."

Southern Stars captain Meg Lanning, speaking prior to Taylor, opined the past wouldn't count for much.

"Tomorrow is a new day and we need to start from scratch," Lanning said.

"The hunger in this side is as good as it's ever been and as high as it's ever been.

"We just can't wait to get out there.

"West Indies have played some good cricket. They're always really tough games and we're expecting a really tough battle tomorrow.

"West Indies will certainly come out firing so we're looking forward to that challenge."

Taylor, who played for the Sydney Thunder during the inaugural women's Big Bash League, was full of praise for the Southern Stars.

The Jamaican revealed she has tried to recreate Australia's competitive streak in her own team.

"What I like about the Aussies is they're fearless in everything they do," Taylor said.

"If they go down, they go down fighting.

"That's one of the things I like about them and I've tried to instil in our girls.

"Just go out there and play a natural game, be fearless."

Taylor suggested there was a sense of nervous excitement amongst her squad but it was important they keep their cool in the final.

"Be calm, composed and just go out there and fight for it," she said.
