Witnesses to the killing in London of a man reported to be a British soldier say the attack was "crazy" and have described the men suspected of the attack as "animals".
Two men are believed to have attacked the man in the street in the London suburb of Woolwich with machetes, knives and a gun.
Eyewitnesses say the two men attacked the man in broad dayligh, then remained at the scene, asking passersby to photograph and film them.

Bystanders filmed the man making a series of political statements.
"We must fight them as they fight us. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth," one man says on mobile phone footage.
The man also says:"I apologise that women have had to witness this today, but in our land our women have to see the same. You people will never be safe. Remove your government, they don't care about you."
Armed police then shot and wounded the two attackers after being called to the incident by bystanders.
British newspaper The Telegraph reports that a woman confronted the two men immediately after the attack, asking them to hand over their weapons and warning them they would lose.
Ingrid Loyau-Kennett told The Telegraph that one of the attackers said to her that they wanted to start a war in London.
Ms Loyau-Kennett, a cub scout leader from Cornwall, says she initially went to the scene thinking it was an accident where she could use her first aid skills.
“Being a cub leader I have my first aid so when I saw this guy on the floor I thought it was an accident then I saw the guy was dead and I could not feel any pulse," she says.
She says the man told her he killed the victim because he was a British soldier who had killed Muslim people in Muslim countries.
Another eyewitness, identified only as James, told local radio station LBC the two assailants "were hacking at this poor guy".
"We thought they were trying to remove organs or something," he says.
"These two guys were crazy, they just were not there, they were just animals."
"They dragged the poor guy - he was obviously dead, there was no way a human could take what they did to him. They dragged him from the pavement and dumped his body in the middle of the road and left his body there."
Local resident, Graham Wilders told BBC News he had initially believed the two men were trying to resuscitate the man.
"What happened is, as I drove around the corner I saw the car on the pavement, I thought there had been an accident," he says.
"Because as I drove around the corner there were two people leaning over, and I thought they were trying to recuscitate him."

British Prime Minister David Cameron says "there are strong indications that it is a terrorist incident."
