Not even Mark Wahlberg and the Navy SEALs of Lone Survivor could stop Wolf Creek 2 from blasting its way onto the top of the Australia box office over the weekend.
In the sequel to the 2005 horror hit, John Jarratt reprises his role as the sadistic outback murderer Mick Taylor, who again sets out to make life a living hell for tourists.
According to the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia, Wolf Creek 2 took $1.681 million in its opening weekend, while Lone Survivor debuted at no. 2 with $1.485 million.
Together they killed the chances of that other wolf, The Wolf of Wall Street, making top spot again. Instead Leonardo DiCaprio and director Martin Scorsese's latest collaboration fell to third place, while comedy Last Vegas dropped one spot to fourth.
In at no. 5 was the RoboCop reboot, while Zac Efron comedy Are We Officially Dating? and Oscar front-runner 12 Years a Slave both fell one place to sixth and seventh.
In its second week of release, the Endless Love remake fell four spots to eighth place. Also in its second week, Winter's Tale, starring Colin Farrell and Russell Crowe, fell from seventh right off the top 10 to no. 14.
Meanwhile, drama The Dallas Buyers Club, starring Matthew McConaughey, held steady in ninth place and The Book Thief came in at 10th.
