Health authorities say a 101-year-old woman has died after contracting meningococcal disease.

A 101-year-old woman from rural South Australia has died after contracting meningococcal disease.

SA Health says the woman contracted the W strain and her case is the first in South Australia this year.

As a precaution, 12 people who had contact with her are being given antibiotics.
