Qantas says its staff did everything they could to save a New South Wales woman who died on a flight bound from London to Sydney.

The woman died from an unknown cause on board the flight which was forced to land in Adelaide in the early hours of Friday morning.

A Qantas spokeswoman said a doctor was on board but the woman could not be revived.

“Our crew did everything they could, including helping perform CPR with a doctor who was on board, but unfortunately the passenger has passed away,” the spokeswoman said in a statement.

“Our thoughts are with the passenger’s family.”

South Australian Police told SBS News a report will be prepared for the coroner.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious," a spokeswoman said.

Witnesses told News Corp of dramatic scenes on the flight, as staff tried to save the woman behind curtains in the kitchen gallery.
