An Australian student has dropped a rape complaint against a British man she met at a nightclub, Bali police say.

The woman, 18, reported to police on Friday night that she had been raped by the tourist, 25, whom she met at the popular nightclub Sky Garden on Thursday night. The man was taken in for questioning.

Denpasar Chief Detective Reinhard Habonaran Nainggolan told reporters the woman withdrew her complaint during questioning on Saturday. "She will be going home tonight ... He's also going home tonight. So, all clear," he said.

DFAT said it was assisting the Australian woman.
