A woman returning to her car after it ran out of fuel has been struck and killed as she tried to cross the Bruce Highway north of Brisbane.

The woman and a man had caught a taxi to get more fuel at Caboolture and were returning to their vehicle about 4am on Monday when she was struck, police said.

"We urge people not to cross the Bruce Highway ... it's a dangerous place to cross," Sgt Greg Price told ABC radio.

Meanwhile, a man is due to front court accused of dangerous driving causing death after a woman suffered fatal injuries when she was hit by a car following an argument at a home in far north Queensland.
